Dec. 24th, 2025 01:44 pmseleneheart- The Covenant of Waterby Abraham Varghese. This has a vibe similar to 100 Years of Solitude, but without the magical realism (there was an attempt, but it ended up getting resolved by science). The story of one family that takes place over decades, as India moved from colonial rule to independence. There is a lot of death, but it was a page turner.
- The Christmas Guest by Peter Swanson. A twisty narrative for the people who prefer a ghost story with their Christmas cheer. It was only 104 pages, so I finished it in a day (yesterday).

- The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh. I literally just started this morning, and have no opinions yet.
- Empire of Grass by Tad Williams. Still reading

Dec. 24th, 2025 12:47 pmcybernyai am still sick! i thought it was better but after work on Monday it took a dive and i went back to the walk-in today. got myself a steroid pack at least to help clear this out. apparently it’s “just viral” _(:3 」∠)_
thinking about christmas with dean & bucky today while I get the house ready for tonight - also still obsessed with my holiday date I wrote for pre-thunderbolts bucky. I had no idea this nostalgia ride was a thing until a few weeks back! and I’m often in the city for Christmas. anyway that’s here on my ao3.

Rec-cember Day 20: Heated Rivalry
Dec. 24th, 2025 04:26 pmfalenaI already recced my fave Heated Rivalry fic on Day 5 when I focused on hockey romance more broadly, but since Heated Rivalry has taken over fandom by storm, I thought some more recs would go down well. Everything is Shane/Ilya because duh. Also, they were written before the show, but since the show is such a faithful adaptation of the book, it shouldn't be a problem.

“When have I ever told you your dick is awful?” Ilya said, looking mildly offended. “I am its number one fan.” I kinda dislike the title because while there's of course quite a lot of smut in this, what makes this story is the amazing characterisation and the fantastic banter (see the quote). seasonality
Dec. 24th, 2025 03:06 pmlea_hazelIt's okay. Yesterday was a good writing day (finally working on chapter 2 of Project Ghoul, after extensive edits on chapter 1). I'm also quite pleased with my Yuletide fic, which I will link to in January, after reveals. I'd hoped to maybe write treats or at least drabbles, but realized eventually that it wasn't in the cards for this years.
Of course, as soon as Yuletide is done and dusted, it's time to switch seamlessly into Purimgifts mode. But I'm pretty busy with unrelated stuff, so I probably won't get into nomming or finalizing my sign-up for a bit. Even though I have approximately a billion new fandoms, due to reading quite prolifically this year (compared to previous years).
All in all, other than the sleep deprivation, I'm doing quite well on a personal level.
The Day in Spikedluv (Tuesday, Dec 23)
Dec. 24th, 2025 06:34 amspikedluvadafrog, cornerofmadness, lunabee34, mistressofmuses, reeby10 and southernmedicine!! It's been really nice to receive them in the mail.I did not go downtown today. I hadn’t slept well (waking up at 3am with all the things running through my head), so I went back to bed after Pip left for work.
I visited mom and helped clear the paperwork off the table so we had room to eat on Christmas. (Which mainly involved creating stacks of toss, file and shred, and then tossing and filing; shredding still has to be done, but at least it’s still off the table).
I did two loads of laundry, hand-washed dishes, emptied the dishwasher and ran another load, went for several walks with Pip and the dogs, baked chicken for the dogs’ meals, cut up chicken for the dogs' meals, and scooped kitty litter. I hit the bank drive-thru for mom and made banana bread for Christmas. Supper was leftover chuck roast.
I marathoned three more eps of The Pitt. Secrets of the Zoo was once again my evening background tv.
Temps started out at 32.9(F) and reached 40.9 (once it did, it immediately turned around and started down again). The TWC app originally called for 1-3 inches, but today it said less than an inch over the course of the entire day. Guess which I was rooting for? Thankfully the updated forecast was the correct one. We had very light snow over the course of the day, but not enough to accumulate.
