My answers

• Something Blue: My notebook for kanji drilling. It's very empty. ._.
• Something Red: My fukusabasmi. It's a silk pouch that's used in tea ceremonies to hold certain personal effects. This gives an ok demonstration of what it looks like and what's in it.
• Something New: I got a sticker of this image when in was in Japan. It's a lot cheaper than the print lol.
• Something Old: I have a first edition copy of Candide in English, published 1759. This is not the oldest book I own, but it is the oldest thing sitting right next to me.
• Something to be kept forever: My hard drive with my decades of writing in it, and the journals I have kept since I was maybe 5 years old.
• Something to be discarded: I guess I'll get rid of my Les Miserables Playbill. I don't really need it as a souvenir.

Something Blue: The navy, cerulean and white knit hat my MiL made me.
Something Red: A bottle of Marc Jacobs nail polish in "Jezebel."
Something New: This laptop!
Something Old: The other laptop that I'm still moving stuff over from.
Something to be kept forever: The watercolour painting on the windowsill of a hummingbird sitting on a rosebush.
Something to be discarded: The rags in the packing box.

Does the watercolor painting have a story behind it?

A friend painted it, and gave it to me when I was a teenager. She's since passed away. I have a bunch of her paintings, but the hummingbird was always my favourite.

something to be kept forever: fan-made banner from a concert :)
something to be discarded: receipt that I wrote notes on, no longer needed

I was not expecting the Jacob Horse to look like that! What an adorable sausage.

Is the stegosaurus for real? Or younger than a bajilion years old?

it never occurred to me to ask how old the stegosaurus is 🤔 but I've had it since I was little! it's a pose-able plastic figurine.

Oh yay, I missed having a scavenger hunt challenge in this year's Snowflake, so I'm glad you came up with one :)

Something Blue: My coffee cup from this morning, which is blue inside and has the MSDS for caffeine outside (a gift from a fannish friend that appeals to my sensibilities exactly)
Something Red: He is actually both red and blue -- Papa Smurf plushie in red cap + trousers
Something New: A book that just arrived in a parcel from a friend, that we have vague plans to read together (Robert Jackson Bennett's City of Stairs)
Something Old: I'm not sure exactly how old, but at least 25 years, because that's as long as I've seen them around -- these china cups from my mother-in-law's house, with a flowers/berries pattern.
Something to be kept forever: The magazines inside my archival keepsake box, that have my poems in them.
Something to be discarded: A packet of rice crackers that I just finished with my afternoon tea.

Yeah, 18th century is not particularly old for books but the imprint is what matters! I was super excited to find it for a decent price.

Something Blue: a throw blanket that belongs to my roommate, which is flung over the arm of the couch right next to me
Something Red: the slipcase around my collected love and rockets
Something New: my phone
Something Old: grandma's first edition hardcover gone with the wind

Something to be discarded: my roommate

which sounds so rude but what i mean is that i'm moving out when our lease is up because i really really need to live by myself again.

the fukusabasmi looks really useful (and pretty!) and the print/sticker is so cute.

I hear you with the roommates. I have some and we are all good friends, but I miss just being alone.

• Something Blue: There's a plastic water cup and a plastic plate next to my computer, both in different shades of blue.


• Something Red: There's a holiday card sent to me by a mentee of sorts that's primarily in red, but the message is about the benefits of friendship.


• Something New: Relatively speaking, I have a new book in my general area about the Zen story illustrations of C.C. Tsai.


• Something Old: That would be me, thanks. The house is older than I am by a lot, but I'm probably one of the oldest objects in the room.


• Something to be kept forever: I don't know. I've kept a time capsule to myself from some time ago, then when I opened it up, I added to it, with another letter to my future self. So I suppose I intend to keep that one for as long as I can.


• Something to be discarded: Ugh, there's always so much material that needs recycling or discarding around me, and so much more that needs sorting, if only I could get around to doing that, too.
