Loki

Saw Loki Season 1. It was ok I guess. Old Loki was the best of the bunch and I wish the show were about him. Somehow they turned NY Loki into an earnest straight man instead of a crazy would-be conqueror, so he was boring. Sylvie at least had some passion and drive, and if she wasn't so hell bent on her mission there would be literally nothing in this show. Basically, not what I wanted out of a Loki show, and the "finale" was such a cliffhanger that I feel like there wasn't any satisfaction in the plot either. I guess the fun stuff will start in season 2? I probably won't watch.

Hitorijime My Hero

My roommates got wind that this anime existed and I found them watching the first episode downstairs a while back. They never watch anime, and usually opt for live action shows, so I figured I'd join them in watching for once since our interests were aligning. We had a good time with it. I have to admit there is still a good amount of fujo in me, but I have never watched straight up BL in the presence of other people and it was half hilarious half embarrassing. And this is an anime that leans into the tropes. We were cracking jokes about statutory rape the whole way through since the main pairing is between a high school student and his teacher. I mean, I still ship it, in fantasy anime dubcon land sort of way. It's just that so many jokes can be made. Setagawa is a cute majime guy, and his earrings make me miss my own.

After we were done watching that series I decided to poke around online to see if there were BL light novels online or maybe some radio plays I could find. I hit on a couple of nice youtube videos so I'm pretending I'm studying Japanese by listening to them.

Octopath Traveler

I'm starting to understand why people call this game grindy. I managed to take a big chunk out of the chapters a little while back, and figured out a nasty combo on a boss that brought him down quick, which appears to be the key to not just getting slowly fucked to death otherwise. But the story continues to underwhelm.

I also have done some honest to god studying this month, and was rewarded by actually seeing a study vocab in the wild. It's been a long ass time since that happened.

Yeah the "Loki" season was a bit disappointing that way lol on the one Discord I've talked about it with people, most everyone was disappointed to varying degrees, except for one person who's kind of a dumbass (not because she thinks differently on this show, but because she's just generally an asshole and has bad taste anyway) and I never count her opinion on anything lol.

I tried watching "Hitorijime My Hero" and was instantly kind of turned off by the first episode and I forget why... I like BL but just... something about it. I wanted to give it another shot though.

Maybe we've talked about it but have you seen "Doukyuseii"? It's a really cute film, and the manga is pretty short, too. Wish I had light novels to recommend lol I'm not really reading anything lately. Plus BL preferences can be very... particular depending on what you're into. I started "Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai" a while book and just didn't finish it yet. It's kind of slow for me and I just find yakuza/mafia/gang stories generally boring, so it's got a lot against it. But it's neat if you want a sort of disaster sub story. And I read "Oni To Tengoku" recently and love it - it's a very short two-volume m/m story about a school nurse and a teacher with major d/s and super dubcon, though it ends up quite sweet imho, and the art's beautiful. There's a lot of great wuxia m/m serials out there that's relatively easy to access now, though (but a lot of it is just fucking long lol), if you're into that kind of thing.

It's neat you're into BL radio plays! I've tried listening to like... radio extras for anime with BL themes and I just... I don't know lol I'll love the show but I can't do the radio stuff lol I like radio plays just fine, depending on what it is, but something about BL/stuff with BL themes is, well... heh.

My one friend who said he liked Loki a lot also has extremely questionable taste. The last recommendation he gave me before that was Cyberpunk 2077. I'm sure there's some nice things about the game but he insisted it was the best modern RPG out there.

I haven't actually seen most of the first episode of Hitorijime cause I walked in late! There's a lot about it I could see turning people off. It's kind of a skeevy show in a couple ways but that's part of its charm for me.

Thanks for the recs! I don't know if you've mentioned Doukyuseii before. It doesn't look familiar but my memory is critically trash. The trailer has a nice style so I'll check it out! Oni to Tengoku looks up my ally too. My reading is so slow though, which I why I end up looking for radio stuff instead.

The sex sounds in radio shows always give a little cringe lol, I wonder how the actors feel about it, but I still like the drama, and it's the easiest way for me to understand Japanese language stuff.

Roflmao yikes on Cyberpunk 2077 being "the best modern RPG out there" roflmao. I mean I deeply dislike "The Witcher 3" but even that was better, from what it looks like. Or he should at least pick a "Dragon Age" lol.

The sex sounds I think are a problem roflmao. I have a friend who's deep into kpop who's talked to me about the actors there and while I think it's more normal in the US for like... porn actors to do porn, and non-porn actors typically don't do porn once they've gone to non-porn, actors overseas in Korea and Japan have a wider range, where they might do BL and slice-of-life, and possibly even be idols. I do wonder what they think but I like to think they either find it entertaining or challenging in a good way lol. (Doesn't mean I want to listen though roflmao)
