A friend told me about there being a Dragon Age cartoon, so I checked that out. I sort of watched it while making and eating dinner over the last few days, so I can't say that I didn't miss anything significant, but it felt like a general setup for the upcoming game, with the MacGuffin and the cliffhanger at the end. More significant spoilers below.

My opinion of the whole show was, eh, it's alright. The characters were fine, the plot was fine, there was a little bit of intrigue and the tone wasn't too light, which I liked. I enjoyed DA:O's relatively dark tone, so any nod to that is good to me. The main character was fine. I think her angst was believable enough, and I can't complain about how it was a little OTT because that's also in line with Dragon Age. The villain guy I also thought was fine. His delusions and belief that he deserves to behave the way he does towards Miriam and Neb felt realistic, and I kind of liked how Miriam did away with him without all that much fanfare in the end, honestly.

Everyone's going nuts over the human/dwarf ship and I'm right there with them. Roland's flirting and Lacklon getting flustered through the episode was the highlight for me, honestly.

My main gripe was that as a show it was a little cheap and short. And I didn't get a very good sense of space or location with Tevinter at all. Dragon Age design is sometimes way out there, for good or for bad, and the show felt more generic than the games do.

I'm also not pleased to hear that yet another dead character is returning, which is what the teaser at the end implies. It has a negative effect on my already minor enthusiasm for the game. I also don't really want any of the characters in this show to be a big part of the game. Some side characters? Sure, major party members? I'd prefer not, so that I have some NPCs that can meet and grow with.

As far as tie ins go I feel like without its connection to the next game this is a show that doesn't have too much to offer. But as a sort of episode inside the greater Dragon Age universe, it's worth the short length of time to get caught up and see what the game might be setting up.

Yeah I enjoyed it for what it was, and had some fun, but it wasn't like the most amazing thing in the world lol And within an hour of finishing it last Friday I wrote a Roland/Lacklon pwp lol It was fun! Fandom's still small on Ao3 but it's growing XD I liked the food for them we got, at least. Was surprised I was the first to post for them cause I waited until Saturday afternoon. It was funny I got a comment from someone saying they were so happy to finally have a gay dwarf and I instantly thought of my original novel that may never actually see the light of day that has a lesbian dwarf and it was such a weird conflicted feeling lol But I love Lacklon for who he is, too.

It definitely felt like a commercial for DA:I more than anything, which I was fine with. I'm also not that excited for that character reveal, though I'm at least intrigued (I always loved that VA's voice, if nothing else, so it was cool to hear her again). I wonder if that's going to show up in the comics rather than the games because Varric's a lot more present in the comics these days and it feels like this is very much a Varric thing. But who knows.

Thank you, I'd been wanting to hear some reviews. Hmm, now to decide if I want to watch it...
