Spoilers below!

I finally sat down to watch the third season of Castlevania, and forgot how hard this show goes. I need to get it out of my head that a show animated in the west is going to be child-safe. I guess I'm still of the mindset that this stuff is made for broadcast TV or something. But anyway yeah the show doesn't pull punches and I was loving it.

Isaac was my favorite in the previous seasons and he gets a ton of screen time this season, and it's basically him just being a badass so it was glorious. Hector continues to be a complete moron. You think he's learned his lesson and then he fucks up all over again. Someone on the writing team is into woob Alucard. I'm not complaining, and also was honestly surprised that I was looking at western cartoon showing a MFM threesome (and did Alucard fucking bottom?!) but again, not complaining. Poor boy needs some fix it fic though. I feel bad for the siblings. They were raised by a monster and didn't have much of a chance, but mess with the best and prepare to get wrecked.

Sypha and Trevor's plot was my favorite sort of horror. Just good old fashioned combat against demons and crazy monks. The animation felt a little clunkier than previous seasons but they did seem to still put a lot of work in the final battle. I love Sypha's moves and Trevor pulling the whip out does not get old. Making the Judge a serial killer was a little weird though. I feel like in a small town like that if you've killed a dozen children people are gonna start wondering what the fuck is going on. I guess he could have spaced them out over a large period of time, but still, that part felt gratuitous somehow on top of all the hellfire and blood and human sacrifice.

Anyway it seems like the season ends on a massive downer for pretty much everyone but Isaac which I'm totally cool with.

My only major gripe is that the sound direction still drove me up the wall. Alucard is the worst for this and at least he didn't have much to do this season, but there's no other show where I can barely understand anything because everyone is mumbling under their breath. I'd think my hearing was going if it weren't the only show where I need to put on subtitles just to know what the dialog is, and multiple times some line would come up in the subs when I didn't hear a single thing said at all. Like, what? I don't have this problem with any other show, but with Castlevania I can't hear shit.
