I'm curious if anyone in my uh, circle (mutuals? what's the Dreamwidth term here?) does or is planning on doing NaNoWriMo? It's coming up!

Way back when I wrote more than 50 decent words a year I won it I think 3 times? But I think that was actually over 10 years ago now? Every year i think, maybe I'll give it a shot and then I do not really give it that much of a shot.

But I'm curious about other people's projects, if they have plans or are just planning to write by the seat of their pants, or if they follow the rules relatively strictly or use the month more flexibly to finish projects or do non-novel writing etc? The last few years I've tried to use the month to work on my worldbuilding but that has gone as well as every other recent project of mine lol.

I haven't attempted NaNoWriMo in a long while.

I won NaNo back in 2004 (in the sense of hitting 50,000 words; I didn't end up with a complete novel), but it wiped me out creatively for months, so, although I had fun, I haven't done it since. Instead, I try to write at least a hundred words of fiction every day of November, on any project. I don't really have any fic inspiration at the moment, with November coming up fast, so I'm going to have to think of some things to write!

I've done NaNoWriMo every year since 2009, and I plan to do it again this year! I've had it as an event on my Discord for months, since a lot of folks there are writers, and I've been part of my local NaNo chapter Discord for a few years, though I'm not really active there, and I've never gone to an actual write-in because I don't find those environments help me write, though I did turn on some write-in twitch streams (which also didn't really help either, honestly; I've realized that sprints and similar things do nothing for me).

I haven't followed the rules strictly in years. Generally I assign myself a list of projects I'm planning to work on, lately different fanfic chapters for different WIPs, and add them to a mixed word doc I use for my numbers. Gets me to 50k well enough every time :D And it means I get projects done.

Good luck with whatever you decide on!
