The anime plunder

got_quietEven though it's been a month, I'm just now trying to get in order the things I brought back from Japan. So here's part 2 of that, all the fannish stickers and paper I got.
On top of the 30 some postcards I just kept picking up like candy, I also got a bunch of stickers and other little things there were more fannish.
While I was in Kyoto I was basically just picking a random interesting looking place and going there for the day. I avoided most of the major "must see" sights, and so there were many times where I was the only person there, or one of only a small group. It's always my preferred way of touring around, and it's very easy to do in Japan because the transit is easy and the area is safe, so I never worry about turning into a wrong neighborhood.
During my last day in Kyoto I decided I wanted to check out lake Biwa, so I just took a look at google maps, picked a random shrine, and went. The shrine ended up being Omi Jingu. I had forgotten, or maybe never realized, that Omi Jingu is actually a major Hyakunin Isshu Karuta landmark! One of the most important tournaments takes place there, but I just went because Omi sounds a little like Oni haha. Anyway, I jumped on the train, took a short walk to the shrine, and immediately noticed that the walls of the courtyard were covered in huge versions of Karuta cards. When I checked the omikuji, I noticed that they actually had Chiharafuru omikuji! I don't usually pick up omikuji at shrines because I visit so many, but I of course had to pick up these. They come in two cards facing each other, and you get your fortune when you open them up.
I got the best luck! So of course I kept the cards (I would have kept the bad luck anyway tbh). My fortune says: 諦めない気持ちが大事と念じつつ。あとは全力突き進べし. Which roughly means "Remember to never give up, and to push forward with all your might." Very Chiharafuru energy.
Affter visiting the shrine I followed a sign for Omi Kangakukan, which is an institute located right down the hill and is where the tournament is actually held. Because it's a working building, it's mostly just offices and meeting rooms, but in the foyer there were a few life size character stands and a small gift shop where they sold a bunch more Chiharafuru stuff. This post (https://biwamass.net/archives/1687) has a bunch of pictures of what it looks like inside. I stuck to the stationary and got two plastic folders.
One was a very nice landscape map of the shrine because I like my maps, and another was this Chiharafuru folder. The whole day was a pleasant surprise because I wasn't expecting to see any Chiharafuru stuff my whole trip.
I also finally went to see a movie in Japan for the first time. After spending some time in Kyoto I went to Tokyo and had a couple days before the work part of the trip started, but my knee was really done with me so I decided a movie would let me sit around some. There was a "Haikyuu movie" playing so decided to check that out. It turned out to be a super cut of the Nekoma vs Karasuno "Battle of the trash bin", which was perfect because I knew the story and didn't have to worry so much about catching everything that was being said. The theater filled up pretty well, which is impressive for a show that's basically a rerun from years ago, there was a little shop in the foyer and everyone who bought a ticket got a little souvenir card for free!
After the movie I went a few blocks over to the Animate main shop. Animate Japan is like the premiere anime and game goods shop. It's a minor nerd mecca, and was stuffed with people. Since I was lucky to be there during the Nu:Carnival second anniversary, I guessed there was some Nu:Carni goods out along with the cafe they were running, and there was about half an aisle's worth of stuff. Some of it was kind of expensive so I initially just picked up some stickers of Rei, Eiden, and Quincy. Rei and Quincy are just their default SSRs, but here is Eiden:
I was weary about getting the gacha items, but on the last day of my trip I was in Ikebukuro again and decided fuck it, it's gambling time, and bought a handful. It turns out if you spend a certain amount on Nu:Carni stuff you get a free character card, but they don't let you pick it. The cashier pulls it from the back and places it face down and you don't get to see it until you're all checked out. It's gacha allll the way down lol. I ended up getting a Yakumo. I like Yakumo a lot so I'm pleased to have gotten something for him even if I didn't love him enough to get his sticker.
And the little gacha things I got were all very cute! I still don't know what to do with the acrylics though. They didn't come with stands or anything, and I don't really have anywhere to display them, so I'm at a bit of a loss. If they were cards or stickers I could put them in my albums. They also didn't scan well. =\ But the images are nice so I don't regret.
