Ok my last post I think was a bit of a mess and didn't really get to the point, which is that I have hit obsession mode pretty hard on Disco Elysium and in particular now have a deep thirst for Lieutenant Kitsuragi. Who knows how long my brain will bet latched on to this. It tends to depend on the fandom output, but right now I basically want all I can get of him. I'm scouring the internet looking for every piece of fanart I can find. I'm contemplating writing fic (not that I will; all my attempts at fic have resulted in trash). I thought he was cool in the beginning, but... and here come the spoilers if you want to avoid them... at some point you can undergo a small sexuality crisis and actually to through a process of learning to stop obsessing about your sexuality. This happens because you find a young man -very- attractive and don't know what to make of it. In the end of the little mini quest you learn to stop obsessing, and of course can inform poor Kim of this, and then you can ask him if he is a member of the homo-sexual underground, AND HE WILL INFORM YOU THAT HE IS. Which at that point I was like fuck this game is two inches away from actually giving it to me here. Unfortunately you cannot inform Kim that you ALSO are a member of the homo-sexual underground and that you would like to make some fuck with him (a line that is actually in the game for someone else!) but that is what fic is for.

And there are so many little side things you can do in this game that initiate some sort of interaction between Harry and Kim so their relationship ends up being actually pretty well fleshed out. A lot of it depends on the choices you make in the game of course, but if you play your cards right Kim ends up liking you and that's like.... the most satisfying thing in the entire game. And just because of the nature of the sort of game it is, there are times where you fuck up and do something Kim doesn't like, and it took me a lot of will power to not save skum and reverse the decision every single time. I ended up playing the game through twice, which is not something that I usually do at all, but this game invites it, because of how significantly the small details change if your stats are different, but both times I had to ultimately be a good person because imagine making Lieutenant Kitsuragi upset. I just couldn't. You can choose to be racist to him (or fuck up a roll and be super racist without trying to) and it actually hurts my soul to do such a thing, even accidentally.

I'm just going to pretend that it's Harry who's the slave for praise lol, and it's probably not canonically far off seeing as how he goes to pieces because he turns the woman he's in love with into some sort of perfect idol and smothers her with his devotion. And I've been reading a lot of fic, most of which is also deeply thirsty for Kim and is filling in all those holes where I wanted to banging to be in the game. Because Harry in the game can be a very wide variety of personalities it's also interesting to see which interpretation each fic gives him, though Kim is a much more solid character and most of the fic I've read gets him down pretty good.

Unfortunately posting images on here is a pain in the ass so I'm just reblogging shit on my tumblr, but for argument's sake (I need people to understand why this game is a romance) I took screenshots during my second run of a handful of bits, a small sample really, of moments where the shipper in me was going wild.

1. Kim a bit of a nerd. He's into the RPG project that's in the game and likes his sci-fi novels. You can offer to play a board game with him, in the game, and it takes very little to convince him even though it can take 6 hours! He's not deterred! If you fail your roll one time you can just try again (when usually you have to invest points to try again) because he just wants to be convinced that much. I will play board games with you until the apocalypse, Kim.

While you can win the game it's also easy to lose, and Kim is extremely competitive so he gets pretty aggro about it. My Harry absolutely popped a scared boner over it.

Harry, you inconsiderate jerk. Let Kim pop out the tokens!

2. Kim has taken note of your "bicep girth." Generally Harry's a trash compactor of a human being but old habits die hard and I guess he still exercises and shit in between the binging and the blackouts. Kim is into it. I'm certain.

Kim has clearly been contemplating those biceps.

3. Kim's a torque dork. He loves his car more than he loves anything else in the game and every single sentence describing it emphasizes how much love and care has been put into its upkeep. He's also clearly a speed freak because the thing is souped up and he's got SPEED FREEKS FM on saved channels. Yes there is some car sex fic out there.

It's ok, Kim, let your freak out.

4. He whistles like an angel. It physically heals your psyche. What is that but love?
